| Dear Member, 2003 Season, cometh the time There is no way that I can script a succinct letter covering the feast of winter and pre-season activity that has prepared our club for the most exciting season in a decade. Better perhaps to list in bullet point form :- - 2002 season ended with a very well attended AGM and highly entertaining Dinner & Dance last November.
- New year has started with a full programme of Winter coaching and net sessions at Somerset County Ground.
- Pre-accreditation for ECB Sports England Clubmark with an action plan agreed with the Devon Cricket Development Office to be the first Devon Cricket club to receive this prestigious award.
- Successful grant applications to both MDDC and Bradninch Parish Council towards key project expenditure.
- Awards for All and Lords Taverners grant applications prepared for a new double net bay to supplement existing facilities; funding permitted this could be in place by the end of the season.
- Design, planning application and sponsorship secured for new Score Box; planned completion early May.
- Redesign of BCC website with graphical links and much more news.
- South African player/coach arrived in mid-March, already taking an active role in the Colts coaching programme and also taking responsibility for the Cricket square and wicket preparation.
- Renewed the registration of Joel Murphy and secured the registration of several new players including the return of Alan Gambles, who joins us with Chris Dean from Cullompton and Tim Piper a Devon Under 16 all rounder with significant talent, who has transferred from Clyst Hydon.
- Bradninch girls represented South of England Ladies Indoor Cricket at Lords in national final.
- Colts registration day April 5th, first two games friendly games won with conviction, North Devon League starting Sunday April 19th and full Devon League programme starts on the Saturday 3rd May.
As we enter the new season, we owe thanks to a very busy committee and in particular to Roy Nott, who has given up his time to ensure that the cricket square reached its potential during the critical early Spring period and provided essential training and guidance to Gem Coetzee, who will I am sure maintain the excellent reputation we have for providing good cricket pitches throughout the Summer. We now hand over to the Captains and playing members to meet the challenges on the field, with a reminder that subscriptions are due by the 3rd May 2003. At this years AGM it was agreed that Match Fees would remain at 5 for fully paid up members, but be levied at 7 per game for those that were not. This new policy has been introduced to redress the situation where we have at least a dozen or so members each year who slip through the net. (ie. non-membership will be very visible and the extra 2 per game will compensate for those who do not pay by virtue of playing just a few games). The other major change at the AGM was to reduce the Membership fee by 10 as we go through the season (ie. the membership will be 40 until the end of May, then 30 for those who start to play for the club during June, 20 during July and 10 during August). This will be administered through the Captains and be based on the date of each members first game (ie. if a member plays a game in May, but they do not pay their membership until June - it will still be 40). To help facilitate this we have been fortunate to appoint a new Membership Secretary, Lesley McCormick, who will maintain an up to date record of members details. Would all Playing Members please complete their personal details on the Membership Form (sent with this letter) and return it to Lesley, with a cheque for 35 made payable to Bradninch Cricket Club, using the enclosed addressed envelope, to arrive on or before the 3rd May 2003, to take advantage of the pre-season 5.00 discount. As this newsletter needs to reach all BCC members, the membership form has been designed to cater for the registration of Associate Members, Vice-Presidents and Sponsors, as well as Playing Members. In essence we would like to hear from all members and welcome the opportunity to receive completed forms from everyone who wishes to make their contribution early to help ease the pre-season cash flow. In addition to membership income, we will be running regular fund raising activities throughout the coming months and your help in supporting the various events and promotions would be well appreciated, to boost funds to feed planned development initiatives. The first of these will be held on the 3rd May 2003, immediately following the first Saturday league games, when a disco and buffet has been organized to get the season off to good social start. More details will appear on the website and club notice board very soon and we look forward to seeing you there. Regards, Derrick Foan BCC Chairman
