The Clubs Sunday XI have been crowned Champions of the North
Devon League Division Three without even taking to the field!
Sundays scheduled opponents Shebbear cried-off in mid-week,
unable to raise a side to travel to Kensham Park, leaving the
our squad with another twenty-point win. The focus of attention
switched to Hatherleigh where the only team who could possibly
overhaul Chris Deans all-conquering side, Tiverton & Bickleigh,
were in action. A score of 201-1 was about par for the
Hatherleigh ground but in excellent batting conditions the North
Devon side romped home to win with plenty of overs and six
wickets to spare.
That result means that even if Tiverton & Bickleigh were to
win all three of their remaining games, and our Sunday Side were
to lose each of their last three then the points average that
Tiverton & Bickleigh would manage would NOT better the one we
would have - courtesy of our 100% record in the League season
thus far.
So its 'Champions of Division Three' for Dean and Company.
All that remains is to carry on the run over the last three
games to end the campaign as a TRUE CHAMPION side with a season
long 100% unbeaten record - quite some feat. Next up just
happens to be a visit from Tiverton & Bickleigh to Kensham Park
on Sunday.
This also means that Division Two beckons for the Sunday XI
and this is where the more serious Sunday Cricket begins. Just
one side attains promotion from Division Two into the First
Division and it is in that top league that it is widely
recognised that the champions are only ever likely to come from
one of: North Molton, North Devon or Sandford.
The remainder of the Division sides play for either mid-table
security or to avoid being the one side that drops out. As
things stand Braunton are set for the drop replaced by Newton
Tracey and that would make up a Division Two next summer of:
BRADNINCH, HEATHCOAT, SHOBROOKE PARK, BRATTON FLEMING
(assuming they escape the drop an INCORRIGIBLES go down),
WESTLEIGH II, BARNSTAPLE & PILTON II, LYNTON and VICTORIA PARK. |
