The 1st XI is left with a nervous Home game when Seaton visits
Kensham Park on Saturday. Defeat is unthinkable as that would
reduce the current 24-point gap between the 1st XI and the
bottom side Braunton (after they recorded a second successive
win at the weekend). Indeed with a trip to promotion-chasing
South Devon the week after, then a visit from 2nd placed
Chudleigh on the final day and the importance of Saturdays game
with Seaton is clear. Tim Piper top scored at Instow on
Saturday with 49, Dan Hardy hit 41 and Skipper Ross Acton got 29
in a total of 164-9. That was not enough to win the game as the
Home side were always up with the clock and got home in the
final over with four wickets to spare. Billy Wakeley bagged
three of the six North Devon wickets to fall.
In stark contrast to the possible nervous finish to the
campaign for the 1st XI the 2nds can look forward to securing a
second successive promotion as they face the two sides battling
it out to avoid relegation: Plympton III (away on Saturday) and
then Kentisbeare before a last day game at Home to Plymouth
Civil Service - one that will be a promotion party and could
also double up as a Title decider.
Skipper Nat Davey top-scored with a half-century as his side
scored 215-9, Chris Dean hitting a better than run-a-ball 39,
including one towering six (hes clearly shaken off the injuries
sustained in the previous weeks Moggy attack!) and Club
Chairman Derrick Foan chipped in with 38.
The visitors, Ivybridge were resilient in their reply and
closed on 160-7 with 1st XI Skipper Chris Acton, looking to
prove his fitness and sharpen up form before a return to the 1st
XI following a lengthy injury-induced absence, bagging a
fivefer haul, finishing with 5-32.
So with 34 points required from the final three games if
results go their way elsewhere on Saturday then the promotion
celebrations might just begin down at Plymstock on Saturday
evening - heres hoping! |
