The long and proud unbeaten record held by Chris Dean and his
Sunday XI ended this weekend with defeat at Home by Tiverton &
Bickleigh who served up a nine-run win in a game that Dean
described as:
"One of the best matches we have been involved in all
season - a sheer pleasure to be part of it.
Dean was one of two half-centurions in the Bradninch ranks,
the other being Sean Nowack. The biggest praise on the day went
to young Zak Skinner making his first appearance for the Senior
Sunday XI and scoring a magnificent 23.
In a thrilling game that ebbed and flowed like the umpteen
tributaries of the River Congo both side had their moments. The
visitors got off to a flyer but were pegged back to close on a
competitive 224. Two wickets each for Nowack, Billy Wakeley and
the old Grand master, (or should that be Grand Dad?) Les Kent.
Dean and Ross Acton set off in hot pursuit of the target and
were in cruise control until both got out. Acton for 29 and Dean
for 51. Enter Nowack and he flayed the ball to all corners
striking one all mighty six but once he departed wickets fell at
regular intervals save for that of young Skinner who flew the
flag for the Clubs burgeoning youth system.
So defeat in the sides 14th game of a 16-match campaign.
Fortunately the reverse does not affect the outcome of the
Championship - that was wrapped up a week before! |
