The Devon League has dismissed plans to significantly alter the
make up of the League following the recent Annual General
Meeting.
League Officers had been in favour of switching the format of
the Leagues to that used by football in so much as first and
reserve teams could play in the same divisions but this idea was
binned at the meeting and as it is the second time that such an
idea has been rejected it seems that the concept will now be
consigned to the historical records.
One thing that did get through was for every member club to
be compulsory members of the Umpires Association, although a
similar bid to get all clubs to be compulsory members of the
Devon Cricket Board at a cost of £40 a year was thrown out.
Changes were made as to the League Chairmans post and this
was the 3rd year running that such a move has been made. Clyst
St. Georges Bob Merrifield, who has held the job since taking
over from Sidmouths John Goodwin this time last year has
stepped down due to pressure of work and the League's new
chairman is to be former Exeter left-arm seamer David Gambie.
