Unbeaten ton, Sunday
XI stay top
The Sunday XI continues to share the leadership of the North Devon
Sunday League Third Division after the matches in Week 7 of this
years competition.
The Tiverton side had to sit out the afternoon after a
waterlogged Filleigh pitch denied them a game but the Bradninch
Sunday side made light work of beating ten-man North Devon who were
despatched back up the North Devon Link Road with a 132-run defeat.
Tim Piper scored 115 that included three 6s and ten 4s. Piper and
Ross Acton (82no) shared a second wicket partnership of 163 runs.
Piper and Dan Hardy (34) put on 82 for the first wicket, before
the Piper/Acton partnership. When Piper was out off the penultimate
ball of the innings, Gary Chappell strode to the wicket and promptly
completely missed the final ball as the innings closed on an
impressive 245-2.
The visitors were strengthened by the inclusion of normal 1st XI
all-rounder Warren Miller. He top-scored with 35 in the reply, but
wickets fell at regular intervals to Phil Chappell (3-13), Les Kent
(2-11), and Eliot Acton (1-15) and there was even time for Toby
McKinnel to claim his first wicket with his right-arm non-spinning
spin as Bradninch cruised to the win and the twenty points that
keeps them top with Tiverton & Bickleigh.
Next up for Chris Deans back-to-back promotion-seeking side is a
June 11th visit from Bude, followed by another home game against
Filleigh 2 before what many see as a potential Title Decider - the
first of the two games with Tiverton & Bickleigh on June 25th. |
