The
clubs cricket ground was packed on Sunday afternoon as the
decision to allow the towns junior football club to stage a
round robin set of matches in the Tony Pryce sponsored Mid Devon
Youth League proved a roaring success with over 200 people
attending the three and a half hours of football. The club bar
was open serving teas, coffees, and of course the full range of
alcoholic beverages and everyone in attendance agreed that it
was a venue that was perfect for the hosting of junior football
matches.
Club President Roy Nott was one of those who agreed that it
was fabulous to see the cricket club able to offer up so much
pleasure to so many people other than the regular cricket use
and certainly, all those in attendance though it was the perfect
venue and sincere thanks were expressed by the organisers to the
cricket club for their agreement to allow the event to be
staged.
Some twelve teams compete in the Mid Devon Youth League and
each venue puts on two pitches to play the matches and the
cricket club will also be staging a round robin series of
matches in the Under 10 age group.
Two pitches under the Football Associations mini soccer
rules were marked out on the outfield allowing for a pitch
adjacent to the square running down by the hedge that overlooks
Charwell Meadow/Townlands and the second pitch was marked at the
top end of the cricket ground. |
