So the dust has settled on another Saturday Season of Francis Clark Devon League Cricket. The upshot of the 18-week campaign is that the 1st XI secured their place in the second tier of Devon County Cricket with some degree of comfort although it was certainly one of those seasons where no one team ran away with the division.

Just two summers ago it was Seaton who beat all put before them and actually had promotion sewn up with three games still to play. Now they must prepare for life in the B Division after going up as champions of A, coming straight back down from the Premier Division and falling on straight through A Division into what is effectively third division cricket in the county.

Tavistock and Sidmouth were both promoted last year from A Division and they will remain there next summer as they followed the route taken by so many clubs that gain promotion into the elite - a season of struggle.

Coming up from the B Division to do battle at Kensham Park next summer are Mid Devon rivals Shobrooke. They were in the A Division twelve months ago but their current skipper Chris Ford certainly thinks they will be better equipped to enjoy a season of not having to worry about relegation as he is targeting a mid-table finish whilst Plymouth won the B Division at a canter and word is that they will reinvest again in a side that already has one overseas and three naturalised players of high quality amongst its playing staff.

So therell be no trip to East Devon with the relegation of Seaton and Axminster, nor will there be a trip to Instow or Chudleigh, but return journeys will be made to Braunton, Cornwood, Abbotskerswell, South Devon and Bovey Tracey as well as the aforementioned quartet of two promoted from B and two demoted from the Premier.

The 2nd XI have enjoyed a second year of silverware-winning cricket, and what a great achievement too for Nat Davey and his side. Next summer they will meet the likes of Barnstaple II, Braunton II, they will meet again C Division title winners Plymouth Civil Service and will also play at Tavistock, Brixham, Alphington, Clyst St. George, Chudleigh and Hatherleigh.

The 2007 season is set to run from Saturday May 5th to Saturday September 1st.
