Now that the postal issue has been resolved and the final
results sheets have made their way in to the League Stats
Centre it is time to reflect on the stats with a Bradninch
angle. In the run-scoring department, GARY CHAPPELL makes the
top ten in terms of batting averages, as his eight innings
included one not-out, a season highest of 90no and a total runs
scored of 268 leaving him a very creditable average for the A
Division campaign of 38.29. Even when you remove the 90no from
his figures you still arrive at a healthy average of 25 for each
innings played.
JOEL MURPHY had another good season with the bat. His 333
runs scored included a best of an unbeaten 51 to give him an
average of 33.33 and even with his 51no removed it comes out at
28.2.
In terms of runs scored, the leader in the campaign proved to
be TIM PIPER who accumulated 334 runs, one more than Murphy.
Piper made it into the listings in 22nd place whilst Murphy came
in at 23rd.
Other 1st XI bats to feature in the published stats were DAN
HARDY (29th with 296 runs), ROSS ACTON (32nd with 279 runs) and
of course young CHAPPELL with his 268 runs that placed him 34th.
In the bowling department South African speed king SEAN
NOWACK finished a very creditable 6th in the leagues top
wicket-takers listings with his 35 victims. Incredibly Joel
Murphy was again right behind the leading wicket taker, as he
had been behind the leading run scorer, with 34 victims. Also
featuring in the wicket-taking lists was PAUL NOTT who had a
seasons return of 26 wickets and 19th place in the final
tables.
In terms of bowling averages Nowacks performance left him
with an end of campaign average of 15.09, marginally into second
place in the divisions standing. His seasons best being the
6-25 he took in that game against Braunton when, if
circumstances had allowed, he may well have bagged a lot more!
An interesting footnote is that whilst Bradninch have two
bowlers in the top ten in terms of most wickets taken, (Braunton
and South Devon are the only other clubs to manage this), it is
in the run accumulated department that the improvement is needed
for next years campaign to lead to the promised land of Premier
Division Cricket for whilst the top run-getter hit 887 and 14
other scored 400 plus, we failed to get anybody above 350 for
the campaign. Now if that were to change next season, and the
wickets taken remain the same, then the end conclusion can be
only one thing - PROMOTION! |
