One worry for Bradninch is with regard to whether or not they will have Ezquerro and Butterworth in their side in twelve months time. Both players have been instrumental in helping to guide the team into the promised land of Premiership cricket.

In Butterworths case it is a fact that the Zimbabwean has been left very frustrated by a second successive soggy summer and he says:

Hand on heart Id have to say that as much as I like the idea of playing here again next summer the simple fact is that I have not enjoyed this season. That is certainly no reflection on a super bunch of guys at the club, nor is it a sleight on the standard of cricket. No, my gripe and indeed frustration, is with the weather.

Last year was bad and we all hoped that this summer would be better, in fact it has been worse and for someone like myself, primarily a batsman its been a woeful season with al the damp tracks.

I think we have had just the one home game this season when we have played on what is commonly termed a road and that is so frustrating.

I may well opt for a different location next summer. I have friends who are playing this year in South East England and they have had nothing like the disruption up there that we have endured here in Devon.

Compounding Butterworths mood is clearly the fact that as the clubs groundsman, it has also been a very difficult summer for himself and his fellow ground staff who, more often than not, have been battling the elements to find time to work on the cricket square.

Meanwhile hopes remain high that Ezquerro and Butterworth (perhaps both?) will be able to join up with the side for next season fabulous challenges. Wicket Keeper/Batsman and Devon Under-21 player Dan Hardy, is off to Durham University and so will not be available for a great deal of the season next summer but better news comes from Gary Chappell, he to is off to University but his placement at a South West University means he will be available for almost the entire campaign.
