The Cricket Club Darts team has just completed the first half of its first ever season in the local Cullompton & District Darts League and what a way to bring the first half to a close as they defeated local rivals THE CASTLE INN by 5 legs to 4.

The victory was all the sweeter as it was also the first time that the team has held a 5-3 lead going into the final ‘dead game’.

Gary Newall chalked up the first club success when he won 2-0 and that feat was followed by a 5th leg win from Steve ‘Biggles’ Birley who beat the Castle landlord 2-0 and to complete three clean singles wins Ross Acton continued to shine on the oche with a magnificent 2-0 win against the opposition’s very good lady player. In this game Ross hit an impressive 140 before needing a single dart to take out double 16 and with it the game!

With the singles ending 3-3 it was vital that the first of the three doubles was won and Ross Acton paired up with his uncle - Alan Dowrick to slay the opposition 2-1. With the score at 4-3 it meant that a second successive doubles win would seal the match and that honour went to Gary Newall and Luke Wrightson who claimed a wonderful 2-0 victory.

Sadly Birley and Eddie Andress could not manage to oversee a clean sweep of the doubles as they went down 2-1 but it failed to take the shine of a splendid win for the dartsmen.

So the Christmas and New Year break comes with the new side having now won 3 games and there’s plenty more in the locker.

Player of the first half has to be left-hander Ross Acton who came out on top of the individual results table run by team organiser Rob Acton.
