Week 7 of the 18 week schedule sees the 1st XI begin back to
back home games. Having hit top spot with the win last weekend
in Newton Abbot against top spot this Saturdays opposition are
the team who sit rock bottom of the A Division, Alphington. The
weather forecast is okay with plenty of cloud cover on offer
and so it may well a day similar to last Saturday when swing
bowlers extract maximum advantage out of the conditions. The
Exeter side have only been able to start and finish four of
their six games to date and they have been beaten in them all.
Last weekend it was a home meeting with Bovey Tracey who were 58
without loss when the rains arrived. So who else is playing
who, and where in the A Division? Cornwood are in 2nd spot,
some nine points adrift of the Bradninch tally to date. They
were frustrated by the weather last weekend having been bowled
out for 141 by Braunton they had the North Devon side two down
with 14 runs in the board when the weather intervened.
On Saturday they will be hoping for better day in terms of
the heavens above as they make the trip to a Brixham side who
will start the weekends fixtures in 3rd spot. It is crystal
clear that a Bradninch win over Alphington and a Cornwood
success at Brixham and the two victors would be well clear at
the top. Bovey Tracey are in 4th spot, but already the margin
between 1st and 4th is 27 points. Last time out Bovey were
lamenting the rains that hit their game with Alphington. This
weekend they host a Tavistock side who share the same number of
points as Alphington at the foot of the table 33. Braunton
picked up 11 points in that rain-hit game against Cornwood. They
will be looking to pick up more than that when they host a South
Devon side who start the day three points and one place below
them both sides sitting mid table. Chudleigh who this time
last year were playing their cricket in the Premier Division,
have not made the best of starts as one win in six suggests,
they host a Barton side who spot an identical record in terms of
matches played but who sit one place and six points below them.
The Clubs 2nd XI (currently 6th in the table), travel to
Cloakham Lawns to meet an Axminster II side who, rather like the
opposition facing the Bradninch 1st XI, sit rock bottom of the
table without anything other than defeats to their name this
term to date. Its four defeats and two matches rained off for
Axminster thus far, although they are stronger now than in the
opening matches having been strengthened by a number of their
footballing cricketers!
2nd XI A Division leaders Bovey Tracey host the side who sit
second, Hatherleigh, 3rd place Shobrooke go to second bottom
Barton, 4th placed Cornwood entertain 5th placed Abbotskerswell
and Paignton host Sidmouth III. |
