Saturday sees match day eight of the eighteen week Devon League
schedule and once again, as things stand, the weather forecast
is less than favourable but yet again that may well play right
into the 1st XIs hands for to date they are the only side not
to have had a game called off owing to inclement weather, this
whilst others have lost at least two! Weather permitting the
visitors to Kensham Park are going to be Barton who were playing
in the top flight just twelve months ago. Last weekend Barton
picked up their second win of the season seeing off struggling
Chudleigh by four wickets in a match that saw their overseas
star again feature prominently. He took 7-18 and hit the sides
second highest score of 36 Toms hit an unbeaten half century
to lead the victorious run chase. Barton have to date won two
and lost three, their other two outings have seen one abandoned
and one cancelled. In terms of points gained only one side has
gained fewer batting points Barton have claimed a miserly 8
but their bowling points tally of 24 is only bettered by two
clubs, Cornwood (25) and ourselves with the 30 bowling points we
have achieved to date. So who else is playing on match day
eight? The side who currently sit second - CORNWOOD, travel to
joint bottom side TAVISTOCK. Cornwood go into the contest on 93
points, some 23 adrift of our own current tally whilst their
Saturday opponents are already 22 points from safety locked on
bottom spot with Alphington and both sides sport records of 34
points. BOVEY TRACEY start the weekend in third place with 89
points and they host BRAUNTON who are currently two places and
twelve points behind them. ALPHINGTON who were so easily
brushed aside at Kensham Park last weekend go in search of a
first win of the season, and they have every chance as they host
another struggling outfit - CHUDLEIGH. SOUTH DEVON stage the
sections other game at the weekend they go into their meeting
with BRIXHAM with 64 points and in joint sixth spot with Barton
who come to Kensham Park. Brixham will look to win the game
outright and so strengthen their promotion bid; they go into the
game at Newton Abbot in 4th spot on 85 points. |
