This coming weekend sees the half-way mark reached in the
Francis Clark Devon Cricket League and as leaders (and with a 30
point lead over the side currently 3rd in the table), the
weekends fixtures are once again massive for all the clubs
contesting the 2nd tier of Devon County cricket. We of course
travel to Brixham who go into the game sat 4th with 96 points
which have been gained from three wins and one outright defeat.
They have suffered more than anybody else with the weather
losing four games to the heavens to date. Last Saturday was one
of those rain hit games when they were 5 without loss poised to
tackle South Devons meagre tally of 136 all out. And the rest
of the A Division programme on Saturday: BARTON vs ALPHINGTON
7th tackle 2nd bottom with this game. Only Tavistock (7) have
banked fewer batting points than the 8 that Barton have to date
but they do have one of the better bowling bonus points' tallies
in the section. Alphington, comfortably beaten in their last
away game here at Kensham Park, are in great danger of slipping
back into the B Division at the first time of asking. BRAUNTON
vs TAVISTOCK
5th take on bottom with Braunton, on 77 points having won three
and lost two to date. They were bundled out and well beaten last
week by Bovey Tracey but they were without former England man
Mark Lathwell for the game. Tavistock have claimed fewer batting
points than anybody else this season, just seven to date as only
they and Barton have bagged fewer than ten batting points so
far. Tavistock have played to a finish in six games to date,
losing five and gaining a winning draw in one with two also
washed out. CHUDLEIGH vs BOVEY TRACEY
8th hosting 2nd with Chudleigh in some trouble at the danger
end of the table just twelve months after they were in the
Premier Division and indeed twenty four months after they were
cruising away at the top of the A Division! Just one win and
four outright defeats in five starts for Chudleigh so far whilst
Bovey go into the game in second spot, some twenty points off
our top berth total of 129. Bovey have won five and lost just
the one- to us in the six games they have been able to start,
and finish this term so far. CORNWOOD vs SOUTH DEVON
3rd meets 5th and 99 points takes on 72 in this game that, if we
can get a positive result at Brixham, will see the table take a
potentially massive pro Bradninch turn, for IF South Devon can
take something from this encounter, and given that we do succeed
at Brixham the gap between 1st and 3rd could be as many as 40
points and with half the season gone that would be a very
healthy platform from which to start the second half of the
fixtures the following week. |
