Source: Stephen Birley The
current longest standing record wicket partnership in the
Francis Clark Devon League belongs to a Bradninch pairing!
Jim Foat and John McKinnell put on 229 for the 4th wicket in
a C Division game in 1984 and that record still stands to this
day.
Foat, surely one of THE finest players ever to wear the
Bradninch colours, and McKinnell – certainly someone who
warrants being etched into the historic fabric of the club, made
hay in the sun that day.
Scorer for that one, Steve Birley, recalls:
"They were supreme from the first moment. To
see ‘Foaty’ bat like that was an honour and Johnny Mac was a
fine bat too."
These days Foat, who placed for Gloucestershire during their
halcyon days in the John Player Cup (the one day competition at
the time - they made a couple of appearances at Lords in the
1980’s), can be found these days on the fairways of Padbrooke
Park golf club in neighbouring Cullompton.
