The Cricket Club Darts team returned from a visit to Willand
Rovers AFC with their heads held low after they caught a savage
7-2 turning over and to use the words of ‘Atomic’ – “We were
rubbish”.
The early games were close and both Alan ‘Silky’ Dowrick and Rob
‘Javelin’ Acton had chances to win their matches. Rob, making a
rare start owing to the absence of Eddie ‘Eagle’ Andress played
superbly against their number one player, claiming a leg and
having a dart at double 16 to win 2 -1.
Steve ‘Biggles’ Birley got the side back into the match when he
came back from a leg down to win 2-1 but that proved to be the
only singles’ success of the night as Gary ‘Big Gaz’ Newall,
Ross ‘Atomic’ Acton and Luke ‘Cool Hand’ Wrightson, all slipped
to defeat.
The first double saw Biggles and Silky pair up and didn’t they
do well as they raced to a 2-0 victory with Silky getting the
pair away each time and Biggles applying the finish.
Sadly that doubles’ success couple not be emulated as the
pairing of Big Gaz and Javelin went down and then Atomic and
Cool Hand threw telegraph poles rather than precise arries and
the end of then game couldn’t come quickly enough as the side
slipped to a 7-2 defeat and they will hope for better things
this week at home to Pony & Trap.
