With regular skipper Ross Acton missing as he battles to recover
from ‘the bug’ Luke Wrightson took charge of making the card out
for the cricket club’s Darts team. Luke, who has clearly
benefited from the advent of a darts board in the garage at his
Townlands home, was a magnificent winner as the side went down
8-1 at home to Willand based Halfway House.
The visitors are very much one of the BIG TWO in the local Darts
League, as Halfway House and the Bell Inn who the club played
the week before, and they arrived expecting to emulate the 9-0
win that the Bell had dished out seven days before.
Steve Birley was on first and he was beaten in NINE darts by
Dave Tilley and Alan Dowrick was a whisker away from being
beaten in EIGHT darts by Darren Tilley, such was the talent in
the opposing side but with the side beaten and 5-0 down Luke
took on ‘Chisel’ Brooks and served up a stunning 2-1 victory.
Gary Newall and Steve Birley then combined to claim a leg as
they went down 2-1 in the doubles as the visitors closed out an
8-1 win.
Rob Acton displayed his unique style of launching the arrows
into the board as if he is in training for the Olympic Javelin
event.
Luke Wrightson’s ‘arrows’ are without doubt the most improved in
the side and it is very evident that the team is showing week on
week improvement.
Next Friday they travel to Broadclyst for a meeting with the
Social Club there.
