Club stalwart Eddie Andress was the undoubted star of the show
as the club’s Darts team came within a whisker of a win at
Broadclyst Social Club on Friday night.
Andress, using a set of darts he purchased when on a trip to New
Zealand won his individual singles match two legs to nil after
he managed to get away within his first trip to the oche each in
both legs.
His win levelled the match score at 2-2 after Gary Newall and
Steve Birley had both lost 1-2 in bids to match the opening
success of Alan Dowrick who claimed a 2-0 win to put the side’s
first point of then night on the board.
Leg four saw Rob ‘javelin’ Acton slip to a narrow defeat but
then Luke ‘dead eye’ Wrightson, powered his way to yet another
fine victory to leave the match in the balance at 3-3 after the
six singles.
Acton and Andress then went down in their doubles match 0-2
before Newall and Dowrick dished up some delightful ‘arries’ to
level the match score at 4-4.
There was no happy ending though as Wrightson and Birley
combined but the pair, despite scoring well, were undone by an
individual who is well known by many at Kensham Park.
Graham ‘Jock’ Davidson, aka ‘T-shirt’, stepped up to the oche
with his side in a spot of bother in the first leg needing 163.
He promptly put one dart in treble 19 and then two darts side by
side in the treble 17, leaving his partner double 2 to take the
first leg and he duly obliged with his first dart!
Wrightson then steered the cricket duo to a levelling leg, but
that was the end of the success story from a BCC point of view
as the home pair took advantage of Birley missing two darts at
his favourite ‘tops’ and they won on the dreaded double one.
On reflection this was a game that perhaps should have been won.
Luke Wrightson, again skippering in the absence of the still on
his sick bed but much, much better, Ross Acton, was again in top
form and Alan Dowrick also deserves mention for winning both his
singles and doubles but star man on the night was Eddie Andress
for winning that all important 4th leg.
