Bradninch and Thorverton have sealed their places on Finals Day
of the Freeman and French Mid Devon Twenty20 competition after
both won their penultimate Freeman group matches.
Bradninch proved too strong for neighbours Cullompton, first
posting a mammoth 210-5 thanks to runs from, Tim Piper (33),
Gary Newall (33), Dan Hardy (32no), Richard Foan (30), Gary
Chappell (26no) and Nat Davey (25) and then the Landspeed Meadow
side were bundled out for just 32 as both Phil Chappell and Mark
Perrott claimed 3-8 whilst Ross Acton and his Uncle Chris, both
bagged braces.
Thorverton sealed their place thanks to a 37 run win over
Tiverton and Bickleigh. The Thors batted first and scored 171-5
and that proved enough to claim victory with the reply closing
on 134-7.
In the French Division the one of the finals day places is
confirmed, this being the place of Heathcoat who first scored
195-5 led by Q Adams with 62 and then James Davis (3-18), Jack
Menheniott (2-11) and John Frankpitt (2-14) bundled out
Shobrooke Park for 77.
Honiton spurned the chance to qualify when they were thumped by
neighbours Whimple, who strolled to a seven wicket win after
bowling the Mountbatten Park men for just 52 in 12.5 overs,
knocking the required runs off for the loss of three wickets
with half of their twenty overs still to be bowled!
That win for Whimple means that both they and Honiton head into
the final round of qualifying matches next week with both sides
still in with a chance of a place at the Finals Day which is set
for Sunday July 26 at Kensham Park, Bradninch.
