Gary Chappell certainly knows how to make an entrance. Playing
in his first game for the Devon County side in a three-day match
at Torquay, our in form – and certainly the stand-out player in
our top-flight life to date – claimed a magnificent four-wicket
haul as Dorset were bowled out for 320 in the last of their 90
overs on day one of the game.
Chappell’s first wicket came when he trapped former Torquay and
Barton player Aaron Williams for 2 to leave Dorset 114-3. It was
in the post-tea session that Chappell made his mark as he and
fellow spinner, Chris Metters, took half a dozen wickets between
them in the session.
Chappell brought the Dorset innings to a close when he had Ed
Denham to finish with figures of 4-65 from 14.3 overs.
