June 20th/21st 2009 will go down in the history books as a bad
weekend at the office in general for the Cricket Club as the
Sunday XI slipped to defeat at Filleigh to leave all three
Senior XI teams beaten on the weekend.
In adversity there are always some chinks of light and one ray
of bright sunshine from the Sunday XI trip to Filleigh was a
return to form for the very talented, but so far this term,
luckless, Richard Foan who put bat to ball with great effect to
strike a trademark 97. He was only denied a certain, and richly
deserved ton, by virtue of him getting a top edge and skying the
ball back to the grateful Filleigh bowler.
Sadly the Foan innings was in a losing cause for the home side
had earlier posted a total of 217-8 with the only bowlers to
make any inroads being the father and son combination of Chris
and Eliot Acton.
Skipper Eliot bagged a brace whilst Dad Chris worked up a decent
head of steam to take 4-38.
The Foan innings apart there was very little to support his
effort and the reply closed on 156 to leave the side rooted to
the foot of the table which is currently headed by Mid Devon
rivals Heathcoat.
