Sean Nowak who was very much a favourite of Bradninch CC during
his stay with the club in 2006 (when he took 35 wickets in an A
Division season with a best of 6-25) is making a name for
himself back in his native South Africa where he has recently
become a regular fixture in State cricket.
He made his debut for Northerns against Free State in the SAA
Provincial Three-Day Challenge competition where the 22 year old
opened the bowling and sent down 9 overs returning the
impressive figures of 2-19 as Free State declared on 279-9.
Nowak’s economy rate of 2.11 was the best of the Northerns'
bowlers.
Sadly Nowak’s debut with the bat was not as eye-catching as he
was out lbw batting at number ten becoming a sixth and final
victim for WJ van Zyl.
In the second innings Nowak was less influential going for 60
off his ten overs and he did not get a bat in the second innings
as the match petered out into a draw.
That debut was last October since when he has settled into the
State cricket scene and his most recent match over three days
last month saw him take seven wickets as Northerns beat
KwaZulu-Natal Inland by ten wickets. Nowak took 3-40 as the
opposition were bowled out for then hit 12 batting at number 10
as his side were all out for 317 before he took 4-39 in 20 overs
as KwaZulu-Natal Inland were bowled out for 182 leaving
Northerns to knock off the 25 to win the game without loss.
Nowak has now played six first class matches claiming 19
wickets.
