Club stalwart Simon Bailey who is playing his umpteenth season for the club, was the star man as the 2nd XI got their Francis Clark Devon League 2nd XI A Division season off to a winning start with a four wicket success at Axminster.

The Cloakham Lawn side had in their XI former 1st team captain Keith Rockett and he struck a top score of 54 but the last four home wickets fell cheaply thanks to an excellent spell by Mark ‘Budgie’ Perrott and the host team trooped off with 190-8 on the score-board.

Bailey then rolled back the years as the anchor man in what would prove to be a successful run chase. Last years 2nd XI skipper Rob Acton shared a partnership of 65 with ‘Bails’ for the 4th wicket and by the time the evergreen Exeter based hit man was out just four runs were needed to see the season off to a winning start.
