The Event: Bradninch’s Own @ the Cricket Club
The Festival Picnic at the Cricket Club, live music, morris
dancing, food & craft market with a rolling concert of some of
the great talented performers, singers and songwriters from
Bradninch. Will be Market stalls, food and
local music aplenty – what more can you wish for on a Sunday
afternoon in June. Performing 13 June
Sunday afternoon at the Cricket Club 2 ‘til 5.
Act: - Zoe & Alex – students of Jerry 2008's
new talent at both the Festival and the football club’s summer
festival in wellies where they improvised their hearts out to
shouts of "carry on" whilst the next acts were tracked down and
the main stage tied down by storms. Z & A have played at the
Phoenix, the acoustic club and CVCC Shine concerts. With
developing precocious talents the two perform their
interpretations of some modern anthems and songs. And part of
the highlights of 2008 – Zoe was shortlisted by Heart FM for the
"light switch on" concert 2009.
Act: - Jerry Cahill,
composer, performer and guitar teacher has played
mainly acoustic guitar for years and years and years, played
everything that's possible on it picked, strummed, hit, slapped,
slid on it, stuffed things under the strings, digitised it and
it keeps coming back for more! For years he has played mainly
solo with the exception of Nada, a duo with the late and
wonderful Pete Barnes on percussion (Indian, African, South
American etc), described by the press as Ambient
Indo-European Blues.
Act: - Simon Webb - a blues pupil of Jerry's
Simon is a brilliant blues guitar performer and arranger – all
in the musical keys. With Jerry he chilled out, literally, at
the Bunker recording studio at Dunkeswell airfield in January.
Simon helped record two tracks on their very ambitious attempt
to produce a blues album with lots of different tastes and
flavours, Devon has a rich blues culture and Simon is a worthy
proponent. Look out for the "Blues in Devon Album". As the sun
shines Simon will transport you to the Mississippi delta,
Louisiana and the bayou where the blues crystallised. He
regularly captivates the guitar virtuosos of the Acoustic club.
Act: - Mandy Porteus - Singer
and songwriter Mandy plays a subtle blend of jazz and
blues inspired folk. Her whimsical songs with their melancholy
edge have been taken from her CD the title track appears on the
BMG double CD collection. Listen carefully and you will be
mesmerised.
Act: - Kevin Spiers Kevin comes from a village
outside Evesham in Worcestershire and moved to Bradninch three
years ago. Although Kevin began composing in his early twenties,
it was the Acoustic Club which gave him the enthusiasm and
confidence to play in public and compose more songs. His style
is acoustic ballads and is a very popular regular performer at
the Club.
