1st XI Review of the weekend's opponents

Chris Acton's side go in search of the first of those 48 points needed to guarantee a place in next seasons 'A' Division with a home game against Clyst St. George who come to Bradninch on the back of last Saturday's three wicket success at home to Alphington, a result that lifted them out of the bottom two. Interestingly the visitors' wickets fell to four different bowlers, each collecting two, Vinod Chouhan, Chris Cook, Tim Downer and Ollie Witton. Alphington managed 184 all out but that was a dismal total after getting to 148 for five down. In the run chase Chris Doe was top scorer with 52, indeed he steered the side to within four runs of victory when he was out, and another amazing statistic was that Alphington sent down 23 wides in an extras total of 43.

That win dropped Babbacombe in to the mire, mind you has a direct influence on our situation for Babbacombe will now need to get something from the visit of Bideford on Saturday to help their cause and with Shobrooke Park travelling the short route from Crediton into Exeter to meet Alphington Saturday nights' league table might well have an even better look for followers of Bradninch Cricket Club.

Clyst St. George's last five matches:
Last Saturday's win was a second in three, indeed in each one of their last four games they have batted second, when they batted first, five games ago, they lost! Mind you they got to within a dozen runs of pulling off a 250 run chase at Bideford and clearly are not to be underestimated on Saturday

H v Alphington WIN opp'ents 184 all out, Clyst St. George 185 -5
A v Chudleigh LOST opp'ents 124 all out, Clyst St. George 110 all out
Chouhan 3 -20, 2 wickets each for Jim Myton, Tim Downer and Chris Cook whilst with the bat Tim Read 33
H v Babbacombe WON opp'ents 186-7 Clyst St George 187 -2
Chouhan 3-42, 16 year old Nathan Hardy 2-38 and with the bat, Duncan Chave 104 not out with 18 x 4's and 2 x 6's, Neil Yeandle 65
H v Bideford Ls draw opp'ents 244-7 Clyst St George 232-7
skipper Chris Cook 3-73, Tim Downer 2-72 with the bat, Duncan Chave 88, Tim Read 62 (these two put on 162 for the second wicket)
A v Barnstaple LOST Clyst 146-6 opponents 147-4
with the bat, Duncan Chave 53, Tim Read 29 (put on 60 for the 2nd wkt) and with the ball Neil Hardy 4-25.

So, on the face of it, a Home banker? We'd like to think so, but it is a game against a side trying to get as many points as possible in their battle against the drop so nothing must be taken for granted, but then after such a great win at Bideford, can you really imagine that success in North Devon being all in vain? I can't either, 'go get 'em boys'.
