| Craig Hawkins' side make the short trip to Whimple for a very important fixture. Mind you the form book would indicate that this trip could have been a lot tougher had it come six weeks ago - for it was then that Whimple were accumulating most of the points they have to date. In the last five matches there have been four defeats and a single win. That win came two games ago against second bottom Uplyme. In that game Whimple stacked up 279-4 (P. Hughes hit a ton and S Van Grudgings hit 83), the guy with the Dutch sounding name then ran amok with the ball taking 6-37 as the visitors were bowled out for 165 and a 114 run defeat.
That win ended a three match losing streak prior to that, with Whimple losing at home to Heathcoat and then getting beaten on their travels at both Kilmington and Kentisbeare and of course their most recent game, last Saturday at Countess Wear also ended in defeat.
A win is a must as is getting as many points as possible out of the fixture. With the title race down to the top three and with rivals Kentisbeare (at Kilmington) and Heathcoat (at Uplyme) both set to get wins the 2nds know that their title hopes rest on a good result on Saturday and then take something more out of the Heathcoat game the next week than the opposition, here's to it......... |
