Ross Acton had a fabulous weekend for the Club, scoring 76 from
an opening berth in the Saturday win over Plymouth Civil Service
and then leading the team to victory in their first ever North
Devon League game at Sandford 2nds on Sunday afternoon. The
win at Creedy Park stamps the Clubs mark on the higher division
and augers well for the campaign ahead, (especially given the
strength of the opposition who fielded no less than FIVE players
who will be gracing their Devon League Premier Division side
this summer).
The Creedy Park side batted first and reached a respectable
187-9, Trevor Anning top-scoring with 82, George Greed struck an
unbeaten 34 and the pair put on 104 for the 4th wicket. Ross
Acton bagged a five-wicket haul, hitting the stumps four times
to return figures of 5-29 from 9 overs, Sean Nowak and Eliot
Acton each took two wickets.
The Bradninch reply was dominated by that man Acton as he
carried his bat for an unbeaten 90 to guide his team home to a
4-wicket win with 10 balls remaining. There were thirteen 4's in
the Acton innings and he got excellent support from Nowak (24),
Tim Piper (23) and Simon Bailey (19 not out). Acton and Piper
added 60 for the second wicket after the opening stand of Acton
and Dan Hardy was ended in the 30's. Anning followed up his run
scoring with 2-18, Richard Baggs took 2-33 and Adrian Small
1-40.
Elsewhere, Bude, who were promoted with Bradninch last year,
began life in the higher division with a 33-run win over
Hatherleigh. Sean Parrish scored an unbeaten 98 in Bude's 256-7;
Richard Tidball was unbeaten on 91 in the Hatherleigh reply that
closed on 233. Kelseymen won the days other game; they beat
Westleigh 2nds by 5 wickets.
On Saturday at Keynsham Avenue a Bradninch XI played a
40-over friendly against Plymouth Civil Service. Batting first
the home side scored 197-6 with Ross Acton opening and
top-scoring with 76, Sean Nowak hit 63. In the reply Civil
Service closed on 145-8, J Carr top scored with 61 whilst Joel
Murphy sent down eight overs and took 3-3.
