The Sunday side scored a resounding win at Bude in Division
Three of the North Devon League with an eight-wicket win on the
last day of April. It was the home sides first defeat in the
North Devon League since 2004 and sends Bradninch to the top of
the early Division Three table. Bude skipper Ashley Hockin,
when interviewed by the local Press said, They were a very
powerful side and their South African quickie was the fastest
thing I have ever seen in the entire North Devon League!
The Bude skipper was talking about Sean Nowack who took three
wickets all of which were key players for the all-conquering
home side. Batting first Bude had no answer to the pace of
Nowack and this then allowed Eliot Acton and Les Kent to both
pick up couple of wickets. Only home skipper Hockin, batting at
number six, made any impression with the bat unbeaten on 74 at
the close.
Facing a total of 133 Bradninch got the perfect start with
the unbeaten knock of Gary Newall. Newall spent all last season
unable to bat owing to spinal problems but has been working hard
during the close season and how it showed as he struck an
unbeaten 47 to guide the side home to an eight wicket win.
Saturday 1st XI Skipper Chris Acton chipped in with 34, Tim
Piper scored 21 and Derrick Foan had 16 to complete a resounding
victory that sends a serious message of intent to the remainder
of the North Devon League 3rd Division - Bradninch mean business
in 2006!
