PIPER AND ACTON LEAD SUNDAY SIDE TO 3RD
STRAIGHT WIN The Sunday League side are still
leading the way in the early season Division Three table after a
resounding eight wicket success at Hatherleigh. Sean Nowack took
3-14 but it was the Chappell Clan who took the bowling honours
with the father-and-son combination responsible for the
departure of half the hosts side! Dad Phil ended with 2-34 and
son Gary 3-13 as the home side were back in the Pavilion for
just 147.
The Bradninch reply got off to the worst possible start and
facing a snooker maximum to win the game-opener Dan Hardy was
snookered - out for the traditional DUCK, and then, when Nat
Davey fell with the score on 31-2 the home side smelt a chance -
but the door that Hatherleigh thought was ajar was quickly
slammed shut as Ross Acton (61no) and Tim Piper (60no) added 118
for an unbroken 3rd wicket, taking the side to a third
successive win.
Scores:
Hatherleigh 147 (G Tidball 29; S Nowack 3-14, G Chappell 3-13, P
Chappell 2-34).
Bradninch 149-2 (R Acton 61no, T Piper 60no).
Bradninch win by 8 wkts.

Cliff 3-33).

Bude 183 (A De Rosa 40, S Hockin 29, M Mansbridge 27; R Marshall
3-51, H Cuppitt 2-14). Shebbear (20pts) bt Bude (8) by 29 runs.
BLAKE STARS WITH BAT - AND BALL!
Tiverton & Bickleigh s Andy Blake had one of those days on
Sunday with both bat and ball. He first struck a superb unbeaten
147 in his sides mammoth 323-5 at Cullompton and then he was
thrown the ball to see what he could do and promptly finished
off the Cullompton innings in his one and only over!
Scott Hudson (58) gave Blake excellent support and when the
Home side batted it always looked a forlorn task before they
were finally bowled out for 105. Mike Cliff, who had taken 3 of
the visitors wickets, top-scored with 31 and Dave Percy hit 27.
For the visitors Hudson completed a fine all round game with
3-12 whilst Liam Jackson took 3-36 and Bernie Leadbetter 2-28,
but the main man on the day was Andy Blake.
SANDFORD 2 BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Sandford 2 returned to winning ways with a 32 run win over
visiting Filleigh 2. Ian Theedom led the way with a splendid 89,
Russell Discombe chipped in with 29 and Sandford closed on
232-8. Then Julian Tompkins took 3-42 and 15 year old Sean
Hawkins took 2-52 as the visitors were bowled out for 200.
CUPPITT STARS WITH BAT AGAIN
Henry Cuppitt was once again amongst the runs as Shebbear
ended an early season slump with a first win after three
successive defeats. Cuppitt, who scored 78 the week before,
bettered that total by 8 runs leading his side to a close of
212-8.
The Bude reply never got going. Only Andrew De Rosa (40) and
Sam Hockin, brother of Skipper Ashley, scored 29. That man
Cuppitt picked up a couple of wickets. So back-to-back defeats
for Bude for the first time since they entered the North Devon
League three years ago.
Have the wheels come off? Skipper Ashley Hockin says:
No I dont think so but we knew at the start of this
campaign that we wouldnt have the same sort of continued
success as we have enjoyed over the recent seasons. We are
playing a number of youngsters every week in our Sunday
League side to help give them the experience for the
Saturday League XIs. Well be okay in so much as I expect
us to stay in the Division but I dont think well be up
amongst the challengers - but then you never know.
