U15's West
On Tuesday night the U 15 West side travelled to Thorverton
looking to improve on their won 2 lost 2 record, which sees them
lying third in the league table.A full strength side fielded
first and opening bowlers Matt Jarratt and Connor Carthew beat
the bat on a number of occasions but were unfortunate not to
dismiss both of the home openers particularly as Alex Riddick
picked out Matt at midwicket only for the umpire to call no ball
for an over height delivery.
Runs proved hard to come by even with a very quick outfield
and short boundaries. At the first change at 25 for 0 after 6
overs Tom Scott replaced Matt and promptly had the other opener
caught and bowled from a skier. Connor then joined the party
clean bowling the new batsman, and when gloves man Jonesy
pouched the third wicket Thorverton were in trouble at 30 for 3.
Sam Jolliff replaced Connor at the River end as Thorverton
dug themselves out of trouble and reached a hundred for the loss
of three wickets. The introduction of the U15's answer to Shane
Warne, Richard Lucey signalled another mini collapse as the
umpires needed to confer regarding the validity of a stumping
off a wide ball!
The third Tom in the side made a mark with the last two overs
from the River end. Fine fielding which has been a hallmark of
the whole season and penetrating bowling for the whole 20 overs
ensured that the Thorverton innings closed at 104 for 6.
At the change of innings the Thorverton manager expressed an
opinion that his guys were 15 or so short of a decent total. How
wrong he was!
The Bradninch openers Connor & Jonesy exuded confidence as
they set about their task. A steady start, 3 from the first over
soon exploded with the score reaching 39 off 4 with the bad ball
being cleanly dispatched to the fence over the previously
mentioned quick outfield.
Changing the bowling didn't improve matters for Thorverton
and after 7 overs the score was a very satisfactory 65 for 0.
Jonesy finally fell lbw to Reddick for 37 with the score on 80.
Out strode skipper Matt. That was that. 3 boundaries and some
extras later, and it was all over at 105 for one in the 11th
over.
All in all another very satisfactory performance. With only 2
fixtures remaining, top spot seems beyond the lads but second
place, which would be a very worthwhile result, is clearly
achievable.
This just shows what can be achieved with tidy fielding,
sensible running between the wickets and a determination to make
the most of every scrap of talent the lads possess. Well done to
all especially those not mentioned above. |
