Week 10 of the Francis Clark Devon Cricket League and week 14 of
the North Devon Sunday League were washed away by the weather.
Not one game across the 73 1st and 2nd XI matches that were on
the Saturday programme, were able to play to a finish, indeed
only ONE even got into the second innings! It was not much
better 24 hours later as the NDL schedule saw just ONE game
played to a conclusion, a Division Four game at Braunton where
Kelseymen lost by three wickets to Lynton & Lynmouth II. There
was play at just one of the top flight games, at Newton Tracey
where Bideford, thanks to Dan Bowsers three wickets and a
half-century, were closing in on victory at Newton Tracey when
the players left the pitch for the fourth and final time in the
contest to leave the match without an outright winner. The games
at Lynton & Lynmouth (v North Devon) and Filleigh (v Beaford),
saw no action at all. In the basement Division our 2nd XI game
at home to Black Torrington met a watery grave, indeed none of
the four games in this section saw a single ball bowled. So
how does this leave the top Division with 14 weeks of the 25
week programme played? Well, it is clearly a three team race for
the title and the destiny of the 2008 North Devon League top
honour will almost certainly be decided by the results in the
remaining games between current leaders Sandford, ourselves and
North Devon.
Our visit to Instow on July 20th comes first and then the Big
Three all meet each other in September. It all starts with the
September 7th Creedy Park game between Sandford and North Devon
and then on Saturday September 13th we host North Devon at
Kensham Park before the same venue stages what will be the final
game of the season and a possible Title decider, when we host
Sandford. So much to play for in the NDL! |
