As if the Saturday double defeat for 1st and 2nd XI's wasn't
hard enough to take, the following day saw the Sunday 1st XI
also slip to a devastating defeat when beaten by nine wickets by
NDL title chasing rivals North Devon. A small crumb of comfort
came with the news that Sandford also slipped up, but there's
precious little room for further mishaps if Sunday glory is to
be delivered to the Pavilion this season.
Here's the feed to the local
press........
Mid Devons two title chasing
North Devon League sides suffered miserable defeats on Sunday
that leaves them both trailing in the wake of new leaders North
Devon. The Instow men showed Bradninch no mercy, first bowling
them out for 193, this despite knocks from Ryan Butterworth
(86), Gary Chappell (31) and Simon Bailey (26), but Matt
Westaways fivefer pegged them back and then only Luke
Wrightson could make any breakthrough with the ball, it was his
caught and bowled to get rid of James Starkey that gave his side
precious cheer on an otherwise forgettable afternoon at Instow
for the Kensham Park side as the hosts made it home on 194-1.
Sandford, like Bradninch, went
down for only the second time this season and they fell to
Filleigh for the second occasion this term!
Mind you this was a lot closer
than the contest at Instow for Sandford were within 14 runs with
three overs and three wickets to spare on 194-7 when Jamie
Palmer, who plays for Sandford on Saturdays whipped out Nigel
Ashplant, Ryan Glass and Steve Morrish, in successive balls to
claim a hat-trick and take his side to victory.
The benchmark for NDL Champions is a maximum two defeats and so
if either Mid Devon side is to claim the top honour this term
they will have to win every remaining game that comes before
them the two sides being scheduled to meet, at Bradninch, in
the very last fixture of the Sunday league season. |
