After a weekend washout across the divisions of the Francis
Clark Devon League, promotion to the Promised Land for the 1st
XI could be confirmed as early as this coming weekend!
Yes, six points across the board for the Saturday washout leaves
Joel Murphys men now needing to bank 32 points from the
remaining three encounters, starting with Saturdays trip to
relegated Alphington, the following weeks visit of Brixham and
the last day trip to Barton.
Indeed these last two games would be immaterial, at least in
terms of bagging a promotion berth, if Alphington can be beaten
on their patch this coming Saturday and Cornwood beat Brixham.
That combination of results would leave the title champers on
ice, but the bottles of promotion bubbly could be corked!
The Sunday title bid remains on as well. Only three matches beat
the weather in week 18 and current leaders North Devon were one
of many washed out when their contest at Bideford never started.
The Instow men have the title to lose for if they win their last
three games then its theirs however after Sundays trip to
Filleigh they finish with games at Sandford and then us and if
they lost either of those then the title would be decided in the
Bradninch versus Sandford meeting in the very final game of the
North Devon season, at Kensham Park on Sunday September 21. |
