The Sunday XI remain very much on course to claim the North
Devon League title at the very first time of asking after they
saw off visiting Lynton & Lynmouth at Kensham Park on Sunday.
The visitors batted first and were bowled out for 162 with the
wicket-taking honours being shared around. Saturday 1st XI
skipper Joel Murphy bagged a brace, a feat also achieved by the
Saturday 2nd XI vice captain, Phil Chappell.
There were single wickets for Adrian Ezquerro, Nick Dean and
skipper Gary Chappell. A highlight of the visitors time in the
middle was that no less than three run-outs were effected by the
Bradninch side, with Chappell (junior), Eliot Acton and cousin
Ross Acton, all getting the ball into the stumps quick enough to
force a dismissal. The reply got
off to the worst possible start with Eliot Acton facing just the
one ball but fine knocks from Ezquerro (41) who hit four 4s
and two 6s, and skipper Chappell (junior) who hit an unbeaten 51
including a boundary to both seal his half century and win the
match with the reply closing on 163-6.
North Devon still lead the table. Their game with Filleigh was
one of a number that failed to see a ball bowled as the previous
day and overnight rain ruined the programme. The mathematics of
it all is quite simple. If North Devon win their final two games
at Sandford on September 7 and six days later at Kensham Park,
then the title goes to Instow. However should they slip up in
one or both, then it will be either Sandford or ourselves who
will be crowned champions and we meet here at HQ on Sunday
September 21 in the final game of the entire North Devon League
season. |
