Plymouth are becoming something of a nemesis for Bradninch in
this early part of the season.
After their 1st XI won at Kensham Avenue on match day one of the
new Premier League season then Plymouth III claimed a victory
over the Bradninch II on match day two of the 2nd XI
competition.
The Plymouth side returned to win again in the first round of
the Devon County Senior Cup and so deny Bradninch the chance of
staging a mouth-watering 2nd round tie with Budleigh Salterton
who received a walk over on the same day as scheduled opponents
Axminster forfeited the game, unable to raise a side.
It was a brave effort by Bradninch, especially Tim Piper who
showed real class in a fabulous innings of 93 as he and Ross
Acton (who struck a sublime 54) put on 89 in very good time for
the 1st wicket in the run chase.
Earlier Joel Murphy had picked up four wickets to finish with
figures of 4-39 whilst Ross Acton had 2-31 but no joy for
Richard Foan who came in for some stick from the visiting
batsmen and he finished with figures of 0-52.
The splendid Piper and Acton apart there was not too much else
to shout about beyond the fact that the run chase got to within
14 of the visitors’ total before the final wicket went down.
Star Man: Tom Piper – Surely back to his best after a splendid
knock whilst Ross Action showed just why the County Selectors
are beginning to discuss his name at their selection meetings.
