The Francis Clark Devon Cricket League was savaged by the
Saturday weather to such an extent that, of the 74 matches that
should have been played across the 15 Divisions, play was
possible in only seven, and at no ground was a match played
beyond the tea interval!
In 1st XI cricket, of the 34 matches that should have been
played there was action in just three, all in East Devon with 29
overs bowled at Yarcombe where Filleigh were the E Division
visitors, 26 overs at Uplyme where a D Division match against
Hatherleigh was on the menu and 23 overs at Upottery where
Topsham St James were the opposition for an E Division game.
The Bradninch 1st XI game at home to Exeter, surely one of the
most attractive on the playing calendar, was forced to bite the
dust but the good thing is that not a single point was gained by
any of the top-flight sides as all five Premier games were
washed out.
There was also play in four of the day’s 2nd XI matches, and
again the fortunate few to see any action were in East Devon.
The Bradninch 2nd XI game at Shobrooke was one of the
casualties.
