No luck for the 1st XI at Ottermouth on Saturday when Budleigh
beat Bradninch by some 49 runs. The pre-tea session of the
contest went very well for Joel Murphy and his men as both the
skipper and Paul Nott claimed three-wicket hauls to leave the
home side closing one run short of maximum batting points on
199-8.
Post-tea though the match did not go so well as wickets fell
regularly with only Tim Piper (38), Ross Acton (37) and Gary
Newall (19), making any notable contributions as the reply ended
on 150.
The 2nd XI continue to be upwardly mobile in the A Division of
the 2nd XI competition after a magnificent 19-point,
seven-wicket win, over Sidmouth IIIs at Kensham Park.
Skipper Phil Chappell led from the front with a superb spell of
4-9 and there were four more wickets for Mark Perrott as the
visitors were bundled out for exactly 100.
Both sides were below full strength with Bradninch taking the
field without the all-round talents of Gary Chappell and fellow
student Dan Hardy whilst the home side were without their
Somerset all-rounder Banks and leading wicket-taker Matt Webb.
This proved nowhere near enough as Rob Acton raced to 57 and with
Simon Bailey again in good touch with a knock of 27 a
seven-wicket win was achieved in some comfort.
