D Division Thorverton left Kensham Park with a surprising
victory after defeating a strong Bradninch XI by 54 runs in the
opening Freeman & French sponsored Mid Devon Twenty20
competition.
The D Division high-flyers batted first and thanks to an 83-run
2nd wicket partnership between George Greed (45 in 28 balls) and
skipper Gareth Hess (46 in 29), together with a late cameo 18
from Dan Bone, closed on 153-8. They had raced away had
plundered 101 at the half way stage.
Joel Murphy returned excellent figures of 3-20 from four overs.
Mark Perrott claimed 2-22 in three.
The home side were then bundled out for 99 with Murphy unbeaten
on 37 and the only other contributions of substance being from
Richard Foan (24) and Gary Newall (18) as Adam Staniforth took
4-21, Rob Woodward 3-17, Simon Manning 2-22 and Kobi Griggs
1-14.
Thorverton skipper Hess said:
"It really was a superb all round performance. The batters got
the runs we felt we would need, although I did think we might
have got a few more although Joel (Murphy) bowled very well.
Then in the field the boys were simply magnificent in support of
a well balanced and certainly firing on all cylinders, attack.
The confidence this performance and result will give us for our
Devon League D Division campaign cannot be understated." |
