Richard Foan produced the goods for the
second Sunday XI game running although unlike his previous
outing when he stroked a classy knock of 97 he bagged a fivefer
to play a leading role in hosts Newton Tracey being dismissed
for 173.
Newton Tracey had started the day as the
side sitting immediately above Eliot Actons Sunday side and a
win was absolutely vital if a successful fight against dropping
out of the North Devon Holiday Homes League was going to be
conducted. Foan finished with 5-48 and skipper Eliot Acton
picked up 3-20 as the hosts were bowled out for that 173.
Then Dan Hardy, who 24 hours earlier, also
on a North Devon track, had gone for a duck, showed his class
with a fine half-century. The Durham University student stroked
his way to 54 and skipper Acton chipped in with 31 as victory
was recorded with two wickets and a couple of overs to spare.
The result whilst not quite lifting the
side off the foot of the table does leave Actons men with a
points average of 8.42, fractionally worse than Newton Tracey
who sit 2nd bottom on 8.71.
Elsewhere in the top-flight North Devon won
at Victoria Park, this a thrilling encounter that the Instow men
won by just one wicket and victory was only sealed by the 4th
and 5th balls of the final over being struck for 4! Sandford
suffered only a second defeat of the Sunday season, beaten at
Bideford and Filleigh, who have now lost fewer than any other
top flight side once chased down 259 to win at Lynton &
Lynmouth by four wickets with six overs to spare. |
