Sunday July 19th was not a good day for the followers of the
Bradninch Sunday XI for the side were forced to cry off from a
second North Devon Holiday Homes League game this season.
Back on Sunday May 3rd, the day after the Saturday XIs had
launched their respective Francis Clark Devon League campaigns,
the Sunday side were forced to cancel a trip to Newton Tracey on
the grounds that they could not raise an eleven to fulfil the
fixture.
Sadly the same thing happened this weekend
(Sunday July 18), with insufficient numbers available to make
the trip to play at Instow against North Devon.
On the
day itself play was only possible at ONE of the 17 venues set to
stage cricket with the only action being the Division Four game
at Bideford which started at 4.15pm.
At that precise time
they would also have been able to begin a contest at Instow but
with no visiting side they could not stage a game!
It
seems very sad that after battling so hard to achieve a place at
the top table of County Sunday cricket, the club has now been
unable to fulfil two games and unless something can be done, and
quickly, about the availability on the Sabbath, then the club's
tenure, certainly as a North Devon League top-flight side, is
set to end. Furthermore, just twelve months ago the Club was
able to field not one, but even TWO XIs on the Sabbath!
The conceding of the game to North Devon takes the Sunday XI
into a more perilous position at the foot of the table with a
current points average of 7.37. The nearest side to this are 2nd
bottom Newton Tracey with a points average of 10.12. The
remaining games for the Sunday XI are:

meeting this campaign is shown in brackets).
