The 2nd XI have probably come to the end of their bid to snatch
a place in next season's top-flight of the Francis Clark Devon
League 2nd XI League after a losing draw at Kensham Park against
Barton on the final Saturday of July.
With each and every one of the five days preceding the meeting
with Barton seeing rain over and above Bradninch, it left
conditions most un-cricket like.
The visitors batted first and were bowled out for 164 as Mark
'Budgie' Perrott once again claimed a four-wicket haul to finish
with figures of 4-26. Teenager Nick Dean gave great support with
3-42 and there was also a brace of wickets for Matt Jarrett.
Sadly, despite a super effort to bowl out the visiting side, the
batting was not quite up to winning the game against a good line
and length from the Barton bowlers and the reply floundered on
110-5.
Nat Davey top-scored with 23, whilst young Dean completed a fine
individual effort with the second highest offering of 21.
So just the eight points to Phil Chappell's side who sit 4th in
the table some 51 points adrift of 2nd placed Cornwood with all
the A Division sides now having just five games and a century of
points, to play for.
Next up is a visit to Kensham Park this coming Saturday from 3rd
bottom South Devon - BUT THE WEATHER FORECAST IS SUCH THAT ONCE
AGAIN IT LOOKS LIKE THE GAME WILL BE PLAYED IN, AT BEST, DAMP
CONDITIONS!
