HAYDN Murray made a match-winning start to his life with
Bradninch Cricket Club striking an imperious run-a-ball
half-century in the game at Sandford.
The Australian was making his debut for the side in their
opening North Devon League game against Mid Devon rivals Sandford. Murray went on to top-score with 74 in total of 227-7.
In his 99 minutes at the crease he struck eleven 4s. Lukas
Fencl smacked a quick-fire 37 from just 23 balls and Dan Hardy
chipped in with 31. Neil Anning (3-41) and Simon Ashplant
(3-52), shared the wicket-taking duties whilst the evergreen
wicket keeper, Nigel Ashplant, held three catches and made a
lightning quick stumping.
Only Matt Theedom (20) and glovesman Ashplant (18) then made any
impression with the bat as home wickets fell at regular
intervals to leave Sandford bundled out for 76 in 23.4 overs.
Former Bradninch player, Richard Foan, making a second start to
life as a Creedy Park player, was bowled off his pads first ball
by the left arm of Ross Acton who was one of three bowlers to
bag a brace of wickets.
Murray claimed 2-5 to complete a fine all-round game for his new
side, and the veteran Paul Nott also bagged a couple of wickets
as Bradninch made an impressive start to the new North Devon
League season.
There were some notable events in the outfield during the hosts'
time with the bat. Matt Jarrett held a beauty but Dan Hardy was
in search of a hiding place after he put down what can only be
described as a ‘dolly’.
