The North Devon League side lost for the first time this new
season when they went down by 25 runs at Braunton.
The home side who provide the Bradninch Devon League 1st XI with
their first opposition of a new Francis Clark County League next
Saturday, batted first and posted a respectable 235-8.
Young Barney Huxtable hit his third half-century in as many
early season Division One games as he top-scored with 68. Mark
Lathwell (42) and Mark Mitchell (20) also provided
contributions, as did John Baglow. The number eight struck an
unbeaten 38 towards the close of the innings.
Haydn Murray was the most successful of the Bradninch bowlers
with 3-43 in his nine overs.
Ross Acton led the run chase with a superb 63 and the second
highest score came from his father Rob who hit 52. However the
only other batsmen to make any real impression was Tom Piper
with 39 whilst the first weekend’s double half centurion,
Murray, went for 19 as the reply floundered on 210 all out.
In the day's only other NDL top-flight game former Bradninch
batsman Richard Foan was hit for six off the penultimate
delivery of the game at Filleigh as Sandford slipped to a
two-wicket defeat.
