A second hat-trick of the season for
Bradninch
Skipper Ross Acton was the star of the show as Bradninch
booked a Devon Senior Cup 2nd Round home tie with Torquay on
Sunday June 13th thanks to an eight wicket win at Axminster.
The Cloakham Lawn hosts were put in and bowled out half way
through the 39th over for 186 with skipper Acton claiming a
fivefer and with it the club’s second hat-trick 24 hours!
With the 2nd XI's Andy Nicholls achieving a treble the day
before in a Francis Clark League game, Acton emulated the feat
with a brace of clean bowled and a leg before decision on his
way to 5-24 from eight overs.
There was also an impressive opening spell from South African
teenager Jacobus Pienaar who sent down eight overs and returned
the very respectable figures of 2-15. Matt Jarrett was the other
successful bowler with 2-29 in 6.3 overs.
Acton then led the run chase in some style before being run
out three short of a half century. He need not have worried
about the outcome of the game though for, despite the cheap
departure of Tim Piper for six, Haydn Murray (69no) and Joe Webb
(41no) saw to it that no other wickets were lost as victory was
realised two balls into the 32nd over.
