Bradninch 2nd XI were denied by the weather in a rain affected
game at home to Budleigh. In conditions more suited to surfing
than the artful sport of leather upon the willow, visitors
Budleigh were invited to bat and laboured to a close of 122-9.
The star of the home show was Simon Bailey who became the third
Bradninch player this season to bowl a hat-trick! The Bailey
treble came with the Ottermouth side on 100-6. He then claimed
three on the trot and it was only a last wicket stand of 22 that
took the visitors to that close of 122-9.
Bailey finished with 4-16 from five overs. There was another
wicket too for Andy Nicholls (1-42), skipper Phil Chappell
bagged a brace with 2-22, his from an excellent twelve overs,
and the other two wickets fell to Mark Perrott (2-37).
Nat Davey held four catches, the evergreen Pete Hardy effected a
smart stumping and there was a catch too for skipper Phil
Chappell as the visitors found conditions and the impressive
home bowling, hard to combat.
The reply was in its infancy when the Umpires finally called a
halt allowing the players to head for the warmth - and dry - of
the pavilion. At the premature stumps Bradninch were five
without loss after eleven deliveries.
After five match days the 2nd XI sit seventh in the A Division
on 47 points, 19 behind 2nd placed Budleigh and 11 better off
than second bottom South Devon.
