The Sunday XI secured a third North Devon League top-flight win
of the season with an excellent all-round display.
It was skipper Eliot Acton who led from the front, batting at
number five, the teenager struck his side's top score of 83 and
added 79 for the sixth wicket with his Uncle Rob Acton who
contributed 37.
Indeed Acton Snr out scored his son, Saturday 1st XI skipper
Ross who made 32. The other major contributions came from Haydn
Murray who clocked up yet another half-century for the side as
the innings closed on a commanding 289-8.
Victoria Park, who arrived at Kensham Park sitting bottom of the
First Division with just two points to show from their first
four outings, were then bowled out for 184. Young Acton used ten
different bowlers to share the duties around and will have been
delighted that his method worked so effectively.
It was particularly pleasing that 14-year old Jack Palmer should
make his first appearance for the side, get a bowl, and do very
well, finishing with a brace of wickets for 31 runs. The bowler
with the biggest haul was Will Squire who took 3-24 and Mark
'Budgie' Perrott chipped in with another brace.
The win keeps the side very much in the title chase. With the
benchmark being no more than two defeats the team are already
'on the edge', however, with everybody having lost at least once
before June has begun there is every chance that the
title-winning side this term may well end up losing as many as
three games.
So Eliot Acton’s men cannot be discounted from the challenge to
claim the top honour which has been in Mid Devon for both the
past two seasons with Sandford winning it two years ago and then
Heathcoat lifting the top honour last season.
