Bradninch suffered their first defeat on opposition grounds this
season when beaten by four wickets at Bovey Tracey. After being
put in the early loss of skipper Ross Acton for 10, Richardt
Saaiman without troubling the scorers, and Haydn Murray for 9,
put the side on the back foot at 38-3.
Tim Piper (41) and Gary Chappell (17) then put on 32 before
Chappell departed and this brought Dan Hardy to the crease for
his first stint with the willow this term for the side.
Hardy (39) and Piper batted intelligently and kept the score
board ticking along until 130 were on the board. Piper went for
41 and Hardy together with Joe Webb (12) took the score onto 161
before three late wickets fell to leave the Bradninch innings
closing on a disappointing 165-8.
A neat caught and bowled from Paul Nott saw the end of one of
the home openers and Jabus Pienaar with the help of the safe
hands of Gary Chappell dismissed the other opener but the runs
continued to flow at almost five per over and the home side
sailed to victory on 166-7.
They had been 154-4 before a flurry of late wickets with
Chappell bagging a brace to finish with 3-47 from another
excellent stint of 13 overs. Pienaar (1-21), Nott (1-19), Murray
(1-33) and Saaiman (1-12) were the wicket takers.
The side slip a place to fourth in the top flight and they now
sit 34 points adrift of leaders Sidmouth but are very safe in
terms of the other end of the table as they are 36 points above
the basement side, Exeter.
Next up another trip down the A38 Expressway with a visit to
Plymouth who will start the day a place, and a couple of points
better off than Ross Acton’s side.
