Bradninch put down
no fewer than half a dozen catches on their way to a losing draw
at home to Plympton and they have slipped into the bottom four
of the Premier Division as a result.
Gary Chappell put down a couple of catches, with one of them
he also re-damaged a finger he had hurt playing for the county
and that left him batting down at number nine.
Mind you, in terms of the game that was probably a godsend as
he was able to steady the shop and see the Kensham Park side to
their close of 158-8 replying to the visitors' total of 232-3.
Those dropped catches certainly made some of the bowling
figures look poor. Skipper Ross Acton, who bagged a fivefer the
week before, ended with 1-70, Chappell took 1-43 and the other
wicket taker was Paul Nott with 1-35. The only other bowler used
was Eliot Acton and he ended wicket-less with 63 runs coming
from his eleven overs. Teenager Nick Acton was elevated to the
opener slot and did very well against the lively Plympton
attack, scoring 17.
However apart from Chappell’s unbeaten eleven from the number
nine slot, the only other home bat to register double figures
was Aussie, Haydn Murray who cracked an excellent 82 from the
number three berth.
In the last two games only five of the Bradninch individual
innings have resulted in double figures with no fewer than 16
being ended in single figures and therein lies the current
problem. The skipper though is not worrying about the fact that
his side have slipped to within 25 points of the second from
bottom side and indeed just 30 off the foot of the table.
Ross Acton says:
"Dropped catches did for us and we threw
the game away in the first half of the contest. I am not in the
slightest concerned about the current table, there’s plenty of
cricket left in the season and we will be all right."
