The Bradninch 2nd XI came up against 'tail-end Charlie' resistance, and not for the first time this term either when hosts Barton closed on 160-9 in reply to the Bradninch offering of 225-5.

Lukas Fencl struck a superb unbeaten 75 and there was also a knock of 43 from the veteran Andy Nicholls and an unbeaten 41 from Matt Jarrett.

Syed Hussain then claimed 4-39 and both skipper Phil Chappell and young Jarrett bagged a brace but the home side stood firm and closed the game out with a losing draw.

Chappell's side sit fifth heading into next Saturday’s home meeting with second placed Plymouth.

There will be 24 points between the sides at the star of play and so, a home win would launch the side into the promotion picture with just five games to play when the stumps are drawn on Saturday night.
