Source: Stephen Birley The rain that fell
on Thursday and Friday before the July 17 fixtures made for some
low scores in the Francis Clark Devon Cricket League.
At Kensham Park, the Bradninch 1st XI powered back into a top
four, top flight, berth with an emphatic nine wicket win over
visiting Paignton.
Winning the toss certainly helped, as it did for the majority
of skippers who called correctly, put the opposition in and
reaped the benefits.
Aussie Haydn Murray was the star of the home show with a
fivefer and he got good support County all-rounder Gary Chappell
who bowled no fewer than nine maidens in his thirteen overs that
yielded him 3-17.
Murray finished with 5-38 from 10.4 overs and the Paignton
innings was all done in the 46th over for a meagre 115.
Dan Hardy was the only home batsman to lose his wicket. He
went for 14 at 36-1. Thereafter Tim Piper (54) and Murray (22)
took their side to a nine wicket win.
The victory lifts Ross Acton's side from fourth bottom to
fourth top and next up they go to Sidmouth to face the home side
who lead the table by half a dozen points as they bid to claim a
third successive Premier Division title.
Acton takes his side to the East Devon coast sitting fourth
on 143 points 53 shy of leaders Sidmouth, 47 short of second
placed North Devon and eleven behind the third placed side,
Plymouth.
Braunton look doomed, bottom with 96 points with six to play
(120 points left to bank). Exeter are second bottom with 101
points. So heading into match day thirteen, Bradninch sit six
places and 42 points from the drop spots.
